Field Service Technician

Not Disclosed

Job Description & Details

This is a heavy-duty field service role where you'll be wrenching on and troubleshooting industrial green sand molding and die-casting equipment directly at customer sites. If you like autonomy, traveling to different plants, and getting your hands dirty with both mechanical and electrical systems, this gig offers a solid mix of hands-on technical problem solving.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

Expect to be on the road a lot, visiting foundries and manufacturing plants to install, commission, and repair heavy machinery. Your typical week will involve reading electrical and mechanical schematics to track down elusive bugs, performing preventive maintenance, and occasionally supervising contractors on bigger rebuild projects. You'll also spend time training client operators on how to keep the gear running smoothly and documenting your site visits.

The Core Tech Stack

You need a strong foundation in electromechanical systems, which means being completely comfortable with PLCs, pneumatics, hydraulics, and high-voltage electrical panels. The hiring managers are specifically hunting for folks who have direct experience with die-casting or foundry equipment. Blueprint reading and interpreting GD&T terminology are non-negotiable here because you'll be dealing with tight tolerances and complex mechanical assemblies out in the field.

Interview Expectations

Be ready for the interviewers to drop a real-world scenario on you, like walking them through how you would systematically troubleshoot an intermittent PLC fault on a live production line. They want to see your diagnostic methodology, so explain your step-by-step process of elimination rather than just guessing the fix. They will also grill you on your safety mindset and how you handle high-pressure breakdowns when a customer is losing thousands of dollars an hour due to downtime.

Application Advice

Your resume needs to heavily emphasize your hands-on background in industrial maintenance, specifically highlighting any direct exposure to die-casting machines, heavy foundry gear, or complex PLC troubleshooting. Make sure keywords like schematic reading, hydraulics, pneumatics, and field service are explicitly mentioned so you easily clear the automated screening filters.
