Senior Java Cloud / Server Engineer

Job Description & Details

This is a solid, heavy-duty backend engineering gig for someone who actually enjoys wrestling with distributed systems rather than just pushing configuration files around. You will be building and scaling core enterprise microservices using Java and Spring Boot, making sure things don't fall over when traffic spikes. If you like owning services from the database layer all the way up to Kubernetes deployments, this one is worth a serious look.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

Your day-to-day will involve designing, writing, and debugging high-throughput backend services that feed data-heavy digital experiences for Fortune 500 clients. You'll spend a good chunk of your time optimizing SQL and MongoDB queries, tuning caching layers to shave milliseconds off response times, and figuring out why a specific microservice is misbehaving in a Kubernetes cluster. Plus, they are actively leaning into AI-assisted development tools like Claude and Codex to speed up the SDLC, so you'll be expected to integrate those into your routine workflow rather than sticking strictly to old-school coding methods.

The Core Tech Stack

Java and Spring Boot are the undisputed heartbeat of this role, so you need to know them inside and out, particularly when it comes to building resilient microservices and clean REST APIs. On the infrastructure side, you will be living in Google Cloud Platform or AWS, orchestrating containers with Kubernetes while keeping an eye on application health via Datadog and Grafana. You'll also need a firm grasp of both relational SQL databases and MongoDB, because data modeling choices here directly impact your ability to scale under pressure.

Interview Expectations

Expect the engineering panel to drill down into your distributed systems knowledge by asking how you would handle a sudden traffic surge that causes cascading failures across multiple microservices. They want to hear about your specific strategies for circuit breaking, graceful degradation, and how you use Datadog metrics to isolate the root cause. You should also be ready for a deep dive into concurrency and memory management in Java, as well as how you design caching layers without introducing stale data bugs.

Application Advice

To get past the ATS, your resume needs to explicitly highlight terms like Spring Boot, microservices architecture, Kubernetes, and GCP or AWS right at the top. Don't just list technologies; show quantifiable impact by describing how you scaled a backend service, reduced API latency, or optimized complex database queries in past roles. Make sure your GitHub or portfolio reflects hands-on production experience with containerized Java applications.
