Job Description & Details

This is a straightforward, ground-level accounting role focused heavily on public sector finance, budgeting, and compliance in Tampa. You won't be building bleeding-edge fintech apps here, but you will be handling critical financial reporting for a public sector organization where accuracy and adherence to government regulations are non-negotiable. If you enjoy digging into fiscal data and dealing with grants and state audits without the chaos of a hyper-growth startup, this contract is worth a serious look.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

Your day-to-day will revolve around reviewing and interpreting financial records, helping build out public sector budgets, and pulling together complex financial reports for the Board and State Auditors. You will be knee-deep in fiscal data, reconciling accounts, and ensuring every single line item complies with strict governmental accounting laws. Expect to spend a decent amount of time communicating with senior management and external stakeholders to make sure grant funds and budget administrations line up properly.

The Core Tech Stack

While there is no complex software suite mandated here, you absolutely must be a power user of Microsoft Excel. We are talking about advanced formulas, data manipulation, and clean reporting capabilities because your spreadsheets will form the basis of audits and board reviews. Paired with your Excel proficiency is a required foundation in governmental accounting principles and public sector budgeting frameworks, which means you need to already understand fund accounting and regulatory compliance before stepping through the door.

Interview Expectations

Since this role requires an in-person interview, be prepared for the hiring manager to grill you on real-world scenarios regarding budget variances and compliance errors. They will likely ask you to explain a time you identified a discrepancy in a complex financial report and how you resolved it without missing a strict deadline. They want to see if you can remain meticulous under pressure while clearly communicating financial data to non-finance stakeholders.

Application Advice

To get past the ATS and grab the recruiter's attention, make sure your resume explicitly highlights your experience with public sector budgeting, grant reporting, and state or federal compliance. Don't just list Excel as a skill; call out specific tasks where you used it to manage large datasets or automate financial summaries. Match the terminology in the job description closely, emphasizing your analytical background and your ability to juggle multiple financial reporting deadlines.
