Job Description & Details
This is a long-haul, 30-month contract role based onsite in Albany, NY, focusing on enterprise-grade Java and Microservices development. You will be knee-deep in modernizing N-Tier web applications, wrestling with legacy integration, and bridging the gap between older IBM tool stacks and cloud-native deployments.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
Expect to spend your days designing, integrating, and deploying complex application components into REST and SOAP web services. You'll be doing a lot of heavy lifting around database integrations, ensuring object-relational mapping via Hibernate runs efficiently, and constantly reviewing code quality at both the unit and integration levels. A significant portion of your time will also be dedicated to interpreting UML diagrams and working with solution design software to maintain system architecture standards.
The Core Tech Stack
You absolutely need to know your way around Java J2EE, Spring Boot, and Microservices architectures. On the data side, deep expertise in Hibernate/JPA and complex SQL queries is non-negotiable. Because this environment touches both legacy IBM ecosystems and modern cloud platforms, having solid experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), GitHub/GitLab, and traditional IDEs like Eclipse or IBM's Rational Application Developer (RAD/IID) will make or break your day-to-day survival here.
Interview Expectations
The technical panel is likely to grill you on how you handle distributed transaction management and service integration across mixed REST and SOAP environments. They want to see how you troubleshoot performance bottlenecks in Hibernate when dealing with complex relational queries. When you answer, don't just talk syntax; explain your debugging methodology and how you ensure high code quality during peer reviews.
Application Advice
To get past the automated screening for this HBITS requisition, your resume needs to explicitly mirror the time-based requirements listed in the job description. Make sure keywords like 'SOA/Microservices', 'Spring Boot', 'Hibernate/JPA', 'JSF/JavaScript', and 'Google Cloud Platform' are front and center, backed by explicit months of experience. Don't leave room for guessing—clearly state your timeline with enterprise tools like Eclipse and IBM RAD to prove you can handle their specific tech ecosystem.
