Job Description & Details
This is a specialized 6-month contract role specifically targeting former Amazon engineers to build heavy-duty backend automation tools for warehouse operations. You will be dealing with billions of events, so if you are looking for a casual CRUD app gig, this is definitely not it. Bring your deep Java background and a track record of shipping production code to survive this environment.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
You'll be partnering closely with internal business and technical teams to write new production code, refactor messy legacy systems, and build out robust backend services. Your day-to-day will revolve around designing scalable systems, ensuring high performance under heavy loads, and driving projects from ambiguous requirements all the way to production delivery. Expect to spend a lot of time making sure your code handles massive event volumes without breaking a sweat.
The Core Tech Stack
Java is non-negotiable here, and you need to know it inside and out for backend application and service development. The team lives and breathes distributed systems, microservices, backend APIs, and event-driven architectures. You also need a strong grasp of operational metrics and logging because building the service is only half the battle; you have to prove it performs under fire using tangible health and performance indicators.
Interview Expectations
Expect the hiring managers to heavily grill you on your system design choices, particularly around how you have scaled services to handle high-throughput event processing in past roles. They will want to hear specific war stories where you owned a project end-to-end, ran into major production roadblocks, and used metrics to troubleshoot and fix them. They are hunting for concrete proof of Amazon's 'Deliver Results' and 'Insist on the Highest Standards' leadership principles in your answers.
Application Advice
Your resume needs to scream active coder—do not apply if your recent roles have been strictly high-level management or architecture without hands-on keyboard time. Highlight your Java expertise, backend service scaling, and explicit examples of shipping products directly to end users. Make sure to weave in metrics-driven accomplishments, showing how your code improvements directly impacted system availability, latency, or operational visibility.
