Switchgear Engineer

RavenVolt

Job Description & Details

This role puts you right in the middle of modern power distribution, focusing on low- and medium-voltage switchgear for microgrids and renewable energy projects. You will act as the technical bridge between design, procurement, and field execution at RavenVolt, ensuring complex power systems actually work in the real world. It is a heavy coordination role where your grasp of electrical theory directly impacts critical-power uptime.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

Expect to spend a lot of your day diving into electrical single-line diagrams, reviewing OEM submittals, and configuring switchgear lineups for BESS, solar, and generator integration. You will juggle bills of material, field questions from construction crews, and factory acceptance testing while keeping multiple fast-moving projects on track. When a design gap pops up or a supplier runs into a lead-time issue, you are the one figuring out the workaround without compromising code compliance or project schedules.

The Core Tech Stack

Your bread and butter here will be a strong foundational grasp of three-phase power systems, protective relays, transformers, and circuit breakers governed by NEC and IEEE standards. You need to be comfortable reading intricate wiring diagrams and utilizing tools like AutoCAD, alongside picking up OEM configuration platforms like Empower or Compass SE Advantage quickly. Experience with power system analysis software such as SKM or ETAP will give you a massive edge when evaluating system impacts.

Interview Expectations

Expect the hiring team to test your practical understanding of switchgear architecture and fault calculations by asking you to walk through how you would troubleshoot a coordination failure between a protective relay and a main breaker. They are secretly evaluating your hands-on grit—checking to see if you actually understand how physical hardware behaves in the field versus just knowing textbook theory. Be ready to defend your approach to interpreting complex single-line diagrams under tight project timelines.

Application Advice

When updating your resume for this role, drop the generic buzzwords and put your electrical distribution and switchgear experience front and center. Explicitly highlight keywords from the job description like 'single-line diagrams', 'OEM coordination', 'NEC compliance', and 'microgrids' so you easily sail past the ATS filters. If you have spent time doing factory acceptance testing, site walks, or dealing directly with contractors, make sure those wins are clearly articulated in your past work history.
