Job Description & Details
This is a solid backend and integration-focused engineering role where you will be knee-deep in enterprise connectivity, API design, and webMethods infrastructure. If you enjoy untangling legacy data flows and building out robust n-tiered architectures, this gig will keep you legitimately challenged without getting bogged down in front-end fluff.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
You will spend your days designing, developing, and deploying complex business rules while handling everything from RFI/RFP vendor evaluations to system architecture documentation. You are the glue connecting disparate systems, which means building APIs, managing REST/SOAP/JMS protocols, and writing integration code. Be prepared for real-world operational realities: you will be expected to pitch in on 24x7 on-call rotations, handle end-user requests, and occasionally mentor junior engineers on the team.
The Core Tech Stack
The absolute non-negotiable here is webMethods Integration Server; if you haven't worked with it extensively, your resume won't make it past the initial filter. Beyond that, you need strong fundamentals in Java, C#, APIs, REST, JMS, and SOAP, paired with a solid grasp of database integration and Unix/Linux environments. Bonus points if you've touched SAML or Ping Federate, as identity and access management play a major role in these enterprise integrations.
Interview Expectations
Expect the technical screeners to test your depth on webMethods architecture and troubleshooting distributed systems. They will likely ask you to walk through a scenario where an API integration fails under high load and how you would trace the bottleneck across JMS and backend databases. The hiring manager isn't just looking for syntax knowledge; they want to see how you troubleshoot production fires under pressure and structure your integration patterns for high availability.
Application Advice
Skip the generic template and make sure "webMethods Integration Server" is right at the top of your resume, ideally tied to quantifiable achievements around API uptime or complex B2B integrations. Weave in your hands-on experience with Java, Unix/Linux, and RESTful services naturally within your job descriptions so the ATS flags you immediately as a specialized integration engineer rather than a generalist.
