Job Description & Details
This is a specialized project management gig centered around deploying 5G, wireless, and complex network infrastructure for the Department of Defense. You will need an active U.S. Government Secret clearance and be willing to do occasional onsite work at Fort Bragg, NC, meaning you are stepping directly into a secure, federal tactical-edge environment.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
Your days will be spent acting as the glue between high-level government stakeholders and deeply technical engineering teams. You aren't expected to configure the Radio Access Network yourself, but you do need to understand the architecture well enough to manage schedules, unblock dependencies, and drive RMF/ATO cybersecurity processes without hand-holding. You will own the integrated project schedule, run status meetings that actually yield action items, and keep multi-disciplinary teams aligned on deployment milestones.
The Core Tech Stack
While you are managing rather than writing code or pulling cables, fluency in 5G SA, private wireless, LTE, RAN, O-RAN architecture, and core networking is non-negotiable. The engineering teams will throw around terms like CU/DU splits, edge computing, and interoperability testing, and you need to parse those discussions quickly to identify risks and map them back to the project timeline.
Interview Expectations
The hiring manager is going to test your mettle on how you handle technical ambiguity and shifting defense timelines. They will likely ask how you manage a critical path delay when a cybersecurity RMF/ATO milestone slips, and they are secretly looking for your ability to push back on scope creep while keeping the customer happy. Expect a scenario-based question about coordinating disparate teams—hardware, software, and field deployment—where you will need to demonstrate that you can independently drive accountability without micromanaging.
Application Advice
Your resume needs to scream defense-grade infrastructure and technical project delivery. Make sure keywords like 5G implementation, wireless network deployment, RMF, ATO, and DoD are explicitly front and center. Skip the generic Agile scrum master fluff; instead, highlight your specific experience managing hardware/software integration schedules, handling cross-functional technical teams, and operating autonomously in secure environments.
