Job Description & Details
This is a heavy-hitting lead engineering role for someone who truly understands the underbelly of enterprise email delivery, rather than just basic API integrations. You won't just be writing business logic; you will be architecting and owning a high-volume messaging platform on AWS that requires intimate knowledge of how mail actually moves across the internet.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
Expect to spend your days designing resilient, asynchronous messaging pipelines and setting up bulletproof email infrastructure. You will spend a good chunk of your time configuring Amazon SES, defining dedicated IP strategies, managing traffic segmentation, and making sure bounce and complaint processing loops are completely airtight. Beyond the AWS plumbing, you'll guide a team of engineers, review code, and bridge the gap between heavy infrastructure constraints and clean Java/Spring Boot microservices.
The Core Tech Stack
You need absolute mastery of Amazon Simple Email Service (SES) and deep, practical knowledge of email deliverability mechanics. This means you eat, sleep, and breathe DNS records, SPF, DKIM, DMARC, and custom Return-Path domain alignment. On the application side, heavy-duty Java and Spring Boot experience is non-negotiable, alongside event-driven messaging patterns using tools like SNS, SQS, or other asynchronous queuing systems to handle high-throughput workloads without dropping packets.
Interview Expectations
When you jump on the technical screen, expect them to probe deeply into how you handle a sudden drop in inbox placement or a blacklisting event on a dedicated IP pool; they want to hear a methodical strategy involving volume throttling, feedback loop analysis, and ISP communication. They'll also likely present a system design challenge around processing millions of transactional emails concurrently, looking for how you handle backpressure, dead-letter queues, and database integration without bottlenecking the application.
Application Advice
Skip the generic cloud developer resume bullets and tailor your CV to highlight measurable scale, deliverability metrics, and specific email authentication projects you've owned. Make sure acronyms like SPF, DKIM, DMARC, and SES are prominent, and explicitly mention your experience mentoring developers and driving technical architecture decisions from scratch to production.
