Google Cloud Migration Lead

Job Description & Details

This is a heavy-hitting architecture and delivery role where you will be driving a massive three-data-center migration to Google Cloud. You aren't just writing specs here; you're owning the entire migration factory from discovery and landing zones to final data-center exit. It requires someone who can talk Kubernetes and Terraform with the engineers while managing enterprise stakeholders and delivery metrics without flinching.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

Your day-to-day will revolve around steering an industrialized migration factory, setting up quality gates, and managing complex dependency mappings across infrastructure, data, and applications. You will balance hands-on architecture decisions—like figuring out whether to rehost, replatform, or refactor legacy workloads—with high-level governance, FinOps guardrails, and risk management. Expect to coordinate closely with Google Professional Services and partner teams while unblocking delivery pods and keeping executive reporting crystal clear.

The Core Tech Stack

Google Cloud Platform is the undisputed anchor here, and you need to know it inside out, specifically enterprise landing zones, IAM, hybrid networking, and robust security frameworks. Terraform and CI/CD pipelines are your bread and butter for policy-as-code and automated validation. On the application side, heavy exposure to Kubernetes (GKE), containerization, and modernizing legacy Java or .NET workloads is non-negotiable if you want to make intelligent workload decisions during the migration waves.

Interview Expectations

When you sit down with the engineering leaders, expect them to test your war stories around handling critical roadblocks in massive data-center migrations. They'll likely ask you to explain how you would design a multi-region landing zone with strict financial-services compliance and automated FinOps guardrails while keeping a delayed migration wave on schedule. The hiring manager isn't just looking for textbook answers; they want to see how you pragmatically balance technical debt, security constraints, and aggressive delivery timelines under pressure.

Application Advice

To get past the automated screens and land this gig, your resume needs to explicitly highlight enterprise-scale cloud migrations rather than just day-to-day DevOps work. Make sure keywords like 'Google Cloud Platform', 'landing zones', 'Terraform', 'GKE', and 'migration factory' stand out prominently in your project descriptions. Emphasize your leadership in regulated industries, specifically how you managed stakeholder expectations, drove architectural decisions, and successfully decommissioned legacy hardware.
