Job Description & Details
This is not your average backend gig where you simply wire up an API and call it a day. You are coming in as the definitive Subject Matter Expert to architect, build, and scale a massive enterprise email pipeline using AWS SES, dealing with the harsh realities of domain reputation, deliverability, and DNS authentication. If you enjoy deep infrastructure challenges combined with enterprise-grade Java development, this role gives you the ownership to drive the entire platform.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
You'll spend your days designing high-volume, asynchronous communication pipelines that handle everything from transactional alerts to massive batch enrollment notifications. You won't just write code; you will configure dedicated IP pools, set up bounce and complaint processing loops, and troubleshoot why a major mailbox provider is throttling traffic. You will also mentor other developers, review their Java/Spring Boot code, and act as the bridge between hard infrastructure constraints and business stakeholder requirements.
The Core Tech Stack
Amazon Simple Email Service (SES) is the heartbeat of this architecture, and you need to know its quirks inside and out—from configuration sets to feedback loops. Alongside AWS, you'll rely heavily on Spring Boot and microservices to build scalable ingestion and routing APIs. Mastery of DNS mechanics (SPF, DKIM, DMARC, MX records, and custom Return-Path domain alignment) is non-negotiable because the platform's success lives or dies on sender reputation.
Interview Expectations
Expect the hiring team to drill down into your practical experience with deliverability failures, asking you to diagnose a scenario where a sudden spike in soft bounces or a misconfigured DMARC record tanks delivery rates across a dedicated IP pool. They are secretly testing whether you understand the domino effect of asynchronous queue failures. You'll also likely face system design whiteboard sessions where they want to see how you decouple high-throughput transaction requests from third-party API limits without dropping messages.
Application Advice
Your resume needs to scream deliverability and AWS architecture, not just generic Java syntax. Make sure keywords like Amazon SES, DMARC, SPF, DKIM, high-volume transactional messaging, and asynchronous Spring Boot processing are front and center. When writing your experience bullet points, highlight metrics around throughput, bounce rate mitigation, and domain reputation management to bypass the recruiter filters and immediately prove you are the enterprise SME they need.
