Genetec Support Engineer

Everforth Apex

Job Description & Details

This 12-month contract role puts you right in the center of a massive, multi-site physical security infrastructure spanning over 100 locations. You aren't just pushing buttons here; you're the backbone of an enterprise environment relying heavily on Genetec Security Center, SIP, and access control integrations to keep operations secure. If you know your way around hardware-to-software troubleshooting and love keeping complex systems compliant and updated, this gig will keep you deeply engaged.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

Expect to spend your days knee-deep in administration, device provisioning, and cross-domain troubleshooting across a sprawling network of cameras, controllers, readers, and intercom endpoints. Four days a week onsite in Pittsburgh, you'll be coordinating with facilities, security operations, and network teams to untangle complex hardware failures, manage user lifecycles under strict least-privilege principles, and execute systematic firmware updates and patches without breaking production. You'll also handle third-party plug-in integrations, from video analytics to biometric platforms like Idemia and Princeton Identity.

The Core Tech Stack

Your absolute bread and butter here is Genetec Security Center, and you won't get far without holding their top-tier certifications like Security Center Enterprise, Omnicast Advanced Administrator, and Synergis Advanced Administrator. Beyond the software, you need deep, hands-on fluency with hardware ecosystems like Axis, Mercury panels, 2N, HID readers, and Life Safety Power supplies. You'll also be leaning on your networking fundamentals—TCP, HTTPS, SIP, and OSDP protocols—alongside SQL for reporting and data integrity.

Interview Expectations

The hiring team is going to want proof that you can handle high-stakes troubleshooting under pressure, so expect a deep dive into a scenario where an entire site's access control goes dark due to a controller firmware mismatch or network bottleneck. They are secretly testing whether you have a methodical rollback strategy and how well you can coordinate between nervous facilities managers and remote network engineers. Another favorite line of questioning will revolve around third-party plug-in lifecycle management, testing your knowledge of how biometric and video analytics integrations can quietly tank a database if licensing or compatibility isn't rigorously validated beforehand.

Application Advice

Do not even submit your resume unless your active Genetec certifications—ClearID Administrator, Omnicast Advanced Administrator, Security Center Enterprise, System Upgrade/Migration, and Synergis Advanced Administrator—are prominently featured right at the top. The ATS is hard-coded to drop applications missing these exact credentials. Weave your enterprise multi-site experience into the narrative, explicitly naming hardware vendors like Axis and Mercury, and highlight any past audit compliance work to signal you know how to manage least-privilege user administration without breaking a sweat.
