Job Description & Details
This is a specialized, high-impact lead role for someone who truly understands the guts of enterprise email infrastructure and isn't just writing basic CRUD apps. You'll be architecting and building a brand new, high-volume messaging platform on AWS from the ground up, combining deep DNS/deliverability knowledge with heavy Java/Spring Boot development. If you live and breathe sender reputation, SPF/DKIM/DMARC alignment, and event-driven AWS architectures, this project gives you total ownership over the design.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
Your day-to-day will span across infrastructure, application logic, and troubleshooting. You won't just be integrating AWS SES via an API; you will be actively managing dedicated IP pools, setting up complex configuration sets, dealing with hard and soft bounce loops, and keeping enterprise-level sender reputation pristine across major mailbox providers. At the same time, you'll be writing and reviewing robust Java and Spring Boot microservices that handle high-volume asynchronous message processing, robust retry logic, and seamless integration with other AWS services like SNS, SQS, and S3. You are the subject matter expert, meaning you will guide other developers, talk shop with infrastructure and security teams, and drive technical decisions straight through to production.
The Core Tech Stack
You need absolute mastery of Amazon Simple Email Service (SES) and deep, battle-tested expertise in DNS mechanics—specifically MX, CNAME, TXT records, SPF, DKIM, and DMARC. On the code side, expect heavy daily usage of Java and Spring Boot to build scalable, resilient REST APIs and asynchronous message processors. A strong grasp of AWS event-driven paradigms (SNS, SQS, Lambda) and database integrations is non-negotiable because this platform moves massive volumes of transactional data where failure handling and tracing matter immensely.
Interview Expectations
Expect the hiring team to test your real-world battle scars regarding deliverability and architecture. They will likely present a scenario where your primary domain suddenly sees a sharp spike in bounce rates and throttling from a major ISP like Gmail or Microsoft, asking you to walk them through your exact remediation steps from DNS adjustments to IP warm-up strategies. They are trying to see if you actually know how to interpret feedback loops and suppression lists under pressure, rather than just reciting textbook networking definitions. You should also be prepared for a deep dive into concurrency and asynchronous event handling in Spring Boot to ensure you can design systems that won't drop transactional payloads during traffic surges.
Application Advice
To get past the automated screen and grab the hiring manager's attention, your resume needs to explicitly highlight your experience with enterprise-scale email platforms, domain authentication, and AWS SES configurations—don't let those keywords get buried under generic software engineering duties. Make sure to quantify the scale of the messaging systems you've previously built or maintained, mentioning volumes, throughput, and reputation management metrics. Frame your experience around ownership and cross-functional leadership, demonstrating that you can bridge the gap between low-level DNS records and high-level Java application design.
