AI Engineer

Job Description & Details

This is a heavy-hitting senior contract role for an engineer who has moved past basic wrapper APIs and is actively building real agentic systems. You'll be bridging the gap between traditional enterprise Java architectures and cutting-edge LLM workflows using tools like Claude Code.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

Your days will be split between designing enterprise-grade Java microservices on Google Cloud Platform and architecting sophisticated AI workflows. You won't just be writing prompts; you'll be engineering context windows, designing ReAct-based workflows, and setting up strict boundaries for AI agents and subagents to autonomously generate, review, and test code. The real challenge here is establishing guardrails so that AI-generated code actually meets enterprise production standards for an Oracle and PostgreSQL backend.

The Core Tech Stack

You need deep, production-level Java and a rock-solid understanding of microservices architecture paired with Google Cloud Platform. But what really sets this role apart is your hands-on proficiency with Claude Code, advanced prompt engineering, and context engineering. The team expects you to bring real-world battle scars from orchestrating AI agents, subagents, and skills, knowing precisely when to deploy each pattern without breaking the broader system architecture.

Interview Expectations

Expect the hiring manager to push past buzzwords by asking you to walk through a specific time you structured a complex context window or designed a ReAct loop that failed in production. They want to hear how you debugged the LLM's reasoning path and adjusted your constraints. You should also be ready for a deep dive into how you enforce API contracts and coding standards when utilizing AI-generated code within a strict enterprise Java environment.

Application Advice

Skip the generic AI buzzwords on your resume and focus heavily on concrete architectural outcomes. Highlight your 10+ years of software engineering by explicitly calling out your production Java experience, GCP deployments, and relational database work with PostgreSQL and Oracle. Most importantly, dedicate a section of your experience to quantifiable examples of Claude Code usage, agentic workflows, and prompt engineering patterns to ensure you clear the ATS keyword filters for this niche skill set.
