Job Description & Details
This is a hands-on Quality Assurance role embedded within a federal ecosystem, specifically supporting USCIS initiatives. You'll spend your days wrangling complex requirements, ensuring system stability, and bridging the gap between automated regression testing and rigorous manual validations. If you enjoy untangling messy legacy workflows and building bulletproof test frameworks for high-visibility public sector applications, this gig offers plenty of technical meat to sink your teeth into.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
You will live and breathe the software development lifecycle, starting from slicing up requirements to running the final production verification checks. Your day-to-day involves writing heavy-duty test strategies, executing functional and performance sweeps, and actively scripting automated tests for continuous regression coverage. Expect to spend a solid chunk of your time facilitating User Acceptance Testing (UAT) directly with stakeholders at client sites and troubleshooting production-like fires when deployments inevitably hit unexpected snags.
The Core Tech Stack
You need a rock-solid foundation in functional testing paired with heavy-duty SQL skills to inspect data states directly in the database. Automation is a massive priority here, so fluency in tools like Selenium, Cypress, and LoadRunner is non-negotiable for writing maintainable regression scripts. On top of that, you'll need deep expertise in JMeter for performance and stress testing, ensuring the platform doesn't buckle under heavy loads when public traffic spikes.
Interview Expectations
When you sit down with the technical panel, expect them to test your architectural thinking around performance bottlenecks. They might ask you to describe how you would isolate a memory leak during a JMeter stress test on a multi-tier web application, and they'll be listening closely to see if you can methodically trace the failure back to database queries or application code rather than just guessing. They will also likely drill into your SQL proficiency by asking you to optimize a complex, multi-join query that is dragging down reporting performance, looking for your ability to think critically about indexing and execution plans.
Application Advice
Your resume needs to make it immediately obvious that you aren't just a click-and-verify tester, but an analytical engineer who builds robust test strategies from scratch. Make sure to prominently feature keywords like "functional testing," "automated test scripts," "Selenium," "Cypress," and "JMeter" so you sail past the initial ATS filters. Explicitly highlight your SQL capabilities and mention any specific federal or large-scale enterprise environments you've supported, tying your experience directly to complex requirements gathering and production deployment verification.
